A Lenten Meditation

I grew up on stories of the Oregon Trail.  The wagons would gather and load up on provisions for the trail and to start a new life in Oregon.  As they traveled along it would soon become apparent that they had packed too much.  It was too heavy a load to carry all they way, so they started to drop unnecessary items along the trail so that they could  make the whole trip.

This Lent we are on a journey to Jerusalem to be with Jesus at his death and resurrection.  Beyond this Lent we are on a journey of life toward Our Lord and the heavenly kingdom.

What is impeding me on the trip, what is slowing me down or holding me back?  What is too heavy to carry? What do I need to give up?
