FISH and the Student Food Pantry are the two food basket ministries St. Mary’s collects food donations for. Maybe you’ve noticed the food basket at the back of the church? It is brought forward and blessed during the 9:30 AM Sunday service (when we are worshipping on-site). Katharine Hunt, chair of our Outreach Council, has written the following update on FISH.
FISH has been very busy in response to the coronavirus. Requests for food and propane are up. At the same time, many volunteers are following guidelines and staying home rather than coming to help in the food pantry. Churches and other organizations that collect food to donate to FISH are closed. What should FISH do?
Del Hawkins, FISH Coordinator shared that they stopped doing food baskets at the end of March. It got too dangerous to get sufficient food as the store where they buy most of their food stopped doing special orders when the pandemic hit. Shopping multiple stores daily for whatever they could find on the shelves involved too much exposure. FISH is maintaining their prescription drug and propane assistance programs going.
If you need help with propane or prescriptions you may contact FISH at 541-689-9750 Monday – Friday, 10 AM to 2 PM. How can you help? Contact FISH at the above telephone number or write to FISH, P.O. Box 2412, Eugene OR 97402
