Kindness is Contagious

On November 3 my friend Tucker Mollers and I presented at the Kindness celebration at the Shedd. Tucker related a story about the unexpected act of kindness he observed while he was incarcerated at Eastern Oregon Correctional Institute:

A much feared inmate in Tucker’s unit called “45” approached an inmate who was mentally disabled in the chow line. Tucker feared the worst. 45 approached the man, tapped him on the shoulder and pointed to his untied shoe. Then, kneeling down, 45 tied it for him and then patted him on the back. Yesterday at Costco, I observed a quite elderly man having balance issues in the men’s restroom. I noticed that his shoe was untied. I said to him,

“Sir, your shoe is untied. May I tie it for you?” He said “Yes, thank you.” I knelt down and tied his shoe. He looked at me and said, “You made my day!” Mine too!

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO KINDLY AGREED TO POST Choose Kindness in your yards. They have been up for some time, so If you like I would ask you to give it a pause until the New Year and then put them back up. When they signs are up in the same place for a long time, people quit seeing them.

We now have Choose Kindness pins in the Narthex for all who want them.

We are not cities of kindness yet, but we are making some great progress.
